Fighting Fear is the second feature documentary by exciting, young 28-year-old Australian filmmaker Macario De Souza, whose debut feature BRA BOYS became the highest grossing Australian documentary of all time and was narrated by Academy Award®-winning actor Russell Crowe.
Fighting Fear follows the real-life trials & tribulations of two best friends from Maroubra, namely Mark Mathews, Big Wave Pro Surfer, and Richie “Vas” Vaculik, Mixed Martial Arts fighter. It is a classic against-all odds tale of redemption, a rip-roaring action-packed documentary that tells the extraordinary, yet true story of two best friends and their real-life struggles as they chase their dreams of becoming professional sports people. Featuring entertaining & insightful interviews from some of the worldʼs most influential action sports athletes, including ten-time World Surfing Champion Kelly Slater, two-time World Surfing Champion Mick Fanning, Big Wave Surfer Bruce Irons, four-time Womenʼs World Surfing Champion Steph Gilmore & two-time UFC World Champion BJ Penn.
Man-of-the-moment Joel Edgerton, fresh from his starring role in the critically acclaimed film Warrior and his up-coming role in Baz Luhrmannʼs The Great Gatsby takes on narrator duties in Fighting Fear.
The guests tonight included Bliss N Eso, who created the soundtrack for the film, Peter Morrissey who sharply dressed the stars tonight, Nash Edgerton, David Michod (Animal Kingdom), Damian Walshe-Howling, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Adam Arkapaw, Mirrah Foulkes and Fitzy & Wippa.
Fighting Fear opens in cinemas nationally on November 10th 2011 and is distributed by Garage Entertainment.
