Mondo Cane at Sydney Festival 2012

Faith No More frontman Mike Patton’s band Mondo Cane has come to Sydney for a few shows at the State Theatre. Amazingly the full orchestra, choir and band also played a free concert last night at the Domain in Sydney as part of Summer Sounds in The Domain – Sydney Festival 2011.

Mike Patton is mostly known as the lead singer of American rock band Faith No More. He’s an extremely talented singer and sung in other bands like Mr Bungle,  Tomahawk, Fantômas, Lovage and Peeping Tom. Not many people know that he is also fluent in Italian and even owned a house in Bologna, Italy. This most likely comes from his marriage to Italian artist Titi Zuccatosta whom he was married to for seven years until they seperated in 2001.

Now it makes a bit more sense that Patton is singing cover versions of 1950s and 1960s  Italian pop music, and recorded 11 songs on his album Mondo Cane.

This free concert was spectacular and if you braved the weather you witnessed an epic and unique show. Patton joined forces with an orchestra, band and choir, a 25-piece ensemble and delivered like he did playing rockshows with his other bands. Despite the rain that started pouring down during the third song in and didn’t stop until close to the end of it there was an amazing atmosphere. As it started pouring down the band needed a 20 minute break to protect the expensive violins by reshuffling the stage. Umbrella’s in the crowd went up and Patton was amazed with the good vibes he was getting from the massive crowd that turned up to watch him perform.

They played pretty much the full Mondo Cane album and then some. Below is a clip I filmed last night of a song not featured on the album: Storia d’Amore by adriano Celentano. I encourage everyone to watch the full video to witness Patton’s amazing performance and see how amazing all the musician performed together on stage. You can really tell the whole band and orchestra loved performing the songs with Mike Patton.

And here’s all the photos I took at the free concert at The Domain in Sydney:

I was there! Some great shots here and taken under some very difficult conditions… my gosh the RAIN!! Were you able to get a shot of the whole stage with the string section in there too?

Thanks Rob! Unfortunately I only have photos from that same angle, the weather didn’t really allow to wonder around for a bit of variation. How bad was the rain! Spectacular show though, absolutely loved it!
