15 October 2012 Australia’s Most Interactive Motor Show Ever!

Opening its doors this week, the 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be one of the country’s largest and most interactive yet.

Floor space in the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre’s main halls was confirmed to be at capacity months ago as exhibitors locked away space, and as a result, the Motor Show has been forced out the doors – literally.

The Australian International Motor Show will expand its presence onto the forecourt of Darling Harbour with over 5,500 square meters of outdoor space solely dedicated to exhibitors and their activities, thus providing for one of Australia’s largest ever Motor Shows.

An impressive 27 brands with vehicles representing almost 95 per cent of the new cars sold thus far in 2012 will exhibit, with many not only debuting new vehicles, but also brand-new stand designs.

“We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of exhibitors this year, at least eight have confirmed to us they will be revealing all-new stands and we are hearing fantastic things about innovative new features and elaborate layouts,” said Russ Tyrie, Event Director.

“A special exhibit has also been set up to display one of the world’s most exclusive supercars – an Aston Martin One-77 which is the only one in Australia, and one of just 77 in the world.”

Outside along the waterfront of Darling Harbour, fans will continue to be impressed.

“There is no doubt visitors to the Show will enjoy the outdoor component on offer at this year’s Show. Exhibitors have gone to great lengths to ensure the experiences are exciting with plenty of interaction and engagement.

“Whilst we cannot reveal all the details, we will say though that those who visit the 2012 Motor Show will be able to experience things they have never been able to do before at any Motor Show in Australia.”

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.

12 October 2012 Australia’s only Aston Martin One-77 will be at the Motor Show

The Australian International Motor Show can confirm that one of the most exclusive vehicles in the world, an Aston Martin One-77 will take centre stage at this year’s Show at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The only Aston Martin One-77 in Australia and one of just 77 in the world, this vehicle is considered by many to be one of the most sought-after and expensive supercars on earth, initially costing over 1.2 million pounds.

Hand-crafted in England, the One-77 is billed by Aston Martin as its definitive sports car – a vehicle that epitomises everything Aston Martin is from technology, hand-craftsmanship of the hand rolled aluminium panels to the attention to detail.

“I am very proud and excited that an Aston Martin One-77 will be on display at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“The One-77 was first revealed to the world in concept form three years ago, and this year, Australians will be able to see one in all its glory after its owner has generously allowed for it to be on public display, only months after taking possession.”

A thrilling fusion of advanced technology and stunning design, the One-77 combines a carbon fibre monocoque structure and aluminium body panels with a 7.3 litre naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 559kW and 750Nm.

The two door sports coupe achieves 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 350km/h.

“In the creation of the One-77, Aston Martin wanted to create a car closer to art than the automobile and it has certainly achieved that,” said Tyrie.

“The One-77 is unique, it is like no other Aston Martin or supercar ever engineered and we are confident it will be a talking point of this year’s Australian International Motor Show.”

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.

11 October 2012 Concept Suzuki Swift Joined by Suzuki Cars, Bikes and Boats

Suzuki Australia will be celebrating the depth and heritage of its entire brand offering at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show with products from Suzuki Cars, Motorcycles and Marine on display.

The headlining act of the Suzuki stand will definitely be a vehicle though with a one-off Suzuki Swift from its chief engineer Naoyuki Takeuchi taking centre stage and giving an insight into the future design and engineering for Suzuki’s number one vehicle globally.

Joining the one-off Swift on stand will be Suzuki’s current range of best-selling automobiles including the full SX4 and Grand Vitara ranges as well as some of its popular motorcycles and a 7m bowrider boat outfitted with a 175hp Suzuki engine.

Suzuki will be the only exhibitor at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show with offerings from its full contingent of transport options on display.

This one-off Swift will take centre stage on the Suzuki stand at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show.

What prompted the idea of a shared stand for 2012 was the success of the advertising campaign celebrating the engineering partnership between its legendary Hayabusa motorcycle and its new luxury sports sedan, the Kizashi – with both on display.

“It’s great what Suzuki Australia will be doing at this year’s Motor Show. We find some visitors to the Show are extremely interested in what particular exhibitors offer in all of their fields, not just in automotive,” said Russ Tyrie, Event Director.

“Visitors to the Motor Show will be able to see the full range of Suzuki vehicles including an exciting one-off concept Swift, but also examples of what else the company offers in the motorcycle and marine markets.”

Alongside the Hayabusa, Suzuki Motorcycles will also have on display the championship-winning GSX-R1000 sportsbike from Josh Waters who recently claimed the 2012 Australian Superbike Championship as well as its versatile V-Strom 650 adventure tourer.

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.

Almost 95 per cent of all new cars sold in Australia this year will be represented at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show, with 27 brands confirmed to exhibit their current, future and in some instances, concept range of vehicles.

The New-Look Mazda CX-9 will have its world premiere at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show
“Australians had their first look at Mazda’s KODO design language last year in Melbourne in the Shinari sports coupe and Minagi compact SUV concepts, where it was enthusiastically received by Show visitors,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

11 September 2012 World’s First Super-Elite Eco-Friendly Muscle Car

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will demonstrate that being ‘green’ can be cool, cost-effective and powerful with a display of the world’s first elite eco-friendly custom-built muscle car – ZERO’D.

ZERO’D is the brainchild of Mick Fabar, owner of Green Homes Australia, whose primary goal when creating the muscle car was to achieve a zero carbon footprint, by focusing on ‘recycling’ and ‘bio technology’.

The 600 horsepower, turbocharged, biodiesel, V8-powered muscle car is based on a 1967 Ford XR Falcon sedan but utilised numerous waste materials and recycled components in its construction.

“I wanted to create a street machine that had ideally a zero effect on the environment in its design, construction and when being driven,” said Mick Fabar.

“I’d been looking into the future and trying to figure out what kind of car my son would be building when he was 16 … The challenge sort of evolved from there.

“I did some research into biodiesel fuels and figured we should put that into a car and see what horsepower we could get. It really didn’t cost anymore to build this car; it just required applying some basic principles.”

Built using primarily recycled materials, every single one of ZERO’D’s external body panels is second-hand and its hand-stitched black leather interior trim is made entirely from hide off-cuts and ‘seconds’ that would normally be discarded. Even the nuts and bolts are recycled!

Only a handful of new components were used, including new rubbers and glass due to replacements not being available in appropriate condition and the radiator and intercooler which had to be specially made to suit the custom front end.

Other new parts were sourced from eco-friendly developments, with the tyres free from Distillate Aromatic Extract oils (DAE) and a low emission base paint.

ZERO’D’s low environmental impact even extends to the equipment used during its creation, with eco-friendly gas used in the welding equipment and its workshop powered by renewable green energy from wind and solar-powered resources.

Powered by a recycled 7.3 litre Ford Powerstroke turbocharged V8 with an Allison four-speed automatic transmission, ZERO’D will run on commercially available B20 (20% bio, 80% petrol) biofuel straight from the bowser that will reduce the V8’s exhaust emission by up to 70 per cent, whilst still delivering impressive horsepower and torque.

ZERO’D took just seven months to build, and only 11 months to plan, with Queensland’s Bond University documenting every step of the build to ensure the production team maintained its carbon footprint of zero.

“We are delighted to have ZERO’D on display at the Australian International Motor Show as it could well provide an insight into the future direction of the automotive industry,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“Confirmed as the first custom car of its kind, ZERO’D is a true demonstration of Australian ingenuity and it will certainly offer inspiration and ideas for the general public and industry experts alike at the Motor Show.”

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.

For further information about the Show and to purchase early bird tickets, visit www.motorshow.com.au, which is also compatible with all android and Apple mobile devices.

In another exciting reveal announcement for the 2012 Australian International Motor Show, organisers can confirm that Mercedes-Benz will be taking the wraps off not one, not two, but three AMGs it has built specifically for the Show at Sydney.

Similarly to the orange C 63 AMG and matt black SLS AMG at previous Motor Shows, these three AMG vehicles are certain to be some of the most popular and talked-about vehicles at next month’s Australian International Motor Show.

“Mercedes-Benz is consistently one of the highest-profile exhibitors and this year they have organised one of the biggest public displays of their vehicles ever in Australia – and in fact, it is actually its largest Motor Show stand in local history,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“They have really pulled out all the stops by building three AMGs specifically for Sydney as well as exhibiting a fantastic array of its current and 2013 models, with more model announcements and details to be confirmed closer to the Show date.”

On its stand, Mercedes-Benz will have a customer lounge, roughly 20 vehicles from its current and forthcoming model range and will command over 1,200 square metres of the internal floor space, making it one of the largest exhibitors at this year’s Show.

6 September 2012 Nissan to unveal 2013 Pulsar and Patrol

A favourite name badge will return to Australian roads next year, but the celebrations will begin at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show when Nissan officially unveils the all-new Pulsar small car locally.

The covers will be taken off the born-again iconic Pulsar, which left the Nissan line-up in 2005 and motoring enthusiasts are counting down the days until its return.

The all-new Pulsar showcases Nissan’s newest design language with its smooth and modern exterior lines, combining with a spacious interior and the latest technology and performance to deliver impressive fuel-efficiency and driver satisfaction.

In an exciting Motor Show for Nissan, joining the all-new Pulsar on stand will be the 2013 Patrol SUV, complete with full specification and pricing information, ahead of its on-sale date early next year.

With its commanding presence, both on the streets and on-stand, the all-new Nissan Patrol will be sure to impress with its luxury and spacious interior, powerful V8 engine and advanced operating systems.

The unveiling of the 2013 Nissan Patrol at the Motor Show will mark the first time Australians will be able to see the right-hand-drive local specification vehicle, with an overseas model displayed at Melbourne last year.

“Next year will be one of the biggest years for Nissan Australia in recent times, with the launch of the 2013 Pulsar and Patrol, as well as updates on other key models,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“Nissan will display a comprehensive range of its latest and future models at the Motor Show and visitors will also be able to learn more about its newest motorsport involvement prior to it entering the V8 Supercars Championship in 2013 as a third manufacturer.”

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.

5 September 2012 National and World Record Attempts

Australian National and World records will fall at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show if John and Helen Taylor, ‘the world’s most fuel efficient couple’ and founders of The Australian Book of Records have their way.

John and Helen are expert world record breakers and lifelong advocates of fuel economy, where they are committed to educating motorists around the world about how to drive safer and smarter.

At the end of September, John and Helen will set off on an Australian National Record Drive attempt, where they will traverse 14,600 kilometres along the coast of Australia in a Jaguar XF 2.2-litre diesel in just 24 days.

John & Helen Taylor will shortly be driving a Jaguar XF around the coast of Australia in an Australian National Record Drive attempt. The XF will then be on display at the Australian International Motor Show, where John & Helen will be sharing fuel economy tips with visitors and giving them the chance to attempt their own national and world records.

The record-breaking drive will conclude in Sydney just before the opening of the Australian International Motor Show, where their Jaguar XF and footage of their drive will be on display, and John and Helen will be sharing their tips on fuel economy with visitors to the Show.

“We are very excited to be at the Australian International Motor Show where we can share our knowledge of and passion for fuel economy,” said John Taylor.

“We want to demonstrate to everyday drivers how they can drive safer, smarter, save fuel, save money and reduce C02 emissions.”

In another drawcard to their stand at the Australian International Motor Show, John and Helen will also be giving all visitors the opportunity to break their own Australian national and world records via the Australian Book of Records.

People of all ages and capabilities will be able to attempt Australian national and world records in categories ranging from food to technical to sporting, with dozens of attempts occurring throughout the Show duration.

“John and Helen’s passion for fuel economy and commitment to educating motorists about how to drive safer and smarter is extremely admirable and we are sure that all visitors to the Motor Show will learn something from having been to their stand,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“They are well respected throughout the world for their fuel saving techniques where they have exhibited at many Motor Shows and conducted multiple world records drives to demonstrate fuel economy.

“Furthermore, through the Australian Book of Records, John and Helen will also encourage visitors to the Australian International Motor Show to attempt their own Australian national and world records – for all we know, Australia could eventually hold the world record for the most Smarties eaten with chopsticks!”

4 September 2012 Mitsubishi Motors: Australian premiere of Outlander and Mirage

Mitsubishi Motors will present the Australian debut of two of its newest family members, the next generation Outlander and global compact Mirage at the Australian International Motor Show at Sydney in October.

Mitsubishi has built the new-generation Outlander to be eco-friendly and accomplishes this with fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels that are among the best in its class.

Additional distinguishing features of the Outlander include enhanced levels of safety due to the adoption of advanced technologies and a user-friendly interior that reflects pure quality.

Also joining the Outlander under the covers will be the Mirage small car, which has been developed on the concepts of ‘high fuel efficiency’, ‘affordable’ and ‘compact’ (easy to drive).

The Australian International Motor Show marks the first time Australian consumers will be able to get their first look at this versatile eco-car, as it will not go on sale until January 2013.

Sharing the limelight also at the Motor Show will be a full range of Mitsubishi’s 2013 models, including the versatile Lancer, city-sized ASX and legendary Pajero.

“Mitsubishi will, once again, have a comprehensive display at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“With a full complement of its 2013 models, together with the Australian unveiling of the all-new Outlander and Mirage by the President of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Mr Osamu Masuko, it is sure to be an exciting Motor Show for Mitsubishi, ahead of an even bigger 2013.”

And as a special treat for electric vehicle enthusiasts – following Beccy Gordon’s successful finish at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the United States recently, Mitsubishi will also feature her electric i-MiEV on its stand.

Racing in the Electric Vehicle class, Beccy, a professional SCORE International off-road racer, completed the 19.98 kilometre (12.42 mile), 156-turn course in 15 minutes, 10.557 seconds, a feat made even more impressive considering it was her debut in the gruelling race.

Competitors are not only in a time trial against each other, but they must also contend with the sharp incline of the course, which begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,110 foot summit.

The 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV Beccy drove to sixth place in her class was the only street-legal 100% electric powered production car competing and is essentially identical to the i-MiEV’s that are on the roads, save for the addition of safety equipment and modified front and rear bumpers.

The Pikes Peak conquering electric i-MiEV delivered impressive power, torque and handling throughout the entire uphill race and its successful competition is a definite indication as to what the future holds for electric vehicles.

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.

With 50 days to go until the doors officially open at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre for the 2012 Australian International Motor Show, the stage has been set for one of the biggest Motor Shows yet.

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will host some of the biggest reveals in the world, with at least one global debut, two Southern Hemisphere debuts and one Oceanic debut confirmed – with many more to be announced in the coming weeks.

“In the last week alone, we have been able to reveal that Lexus will be unveiling a hybrid coupe concept vehicle to the world, with Jaguar also taking the covers off its brand-new F-TYPE sports car and Land Rover debuting the all-new Range Rover for the first time in our Hemisphere,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“Lamborghini will also unveil the Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder in its Oceanic debut and we also have Ford Performance Vehicles displaying the fastest locally built Ford Falcon ever, in the GT RSPEC.

“With over six weeks to go until the Show, there is still plenty of news to be shared; however we are respecting the manufacturer’s wishes and the embargoes they have in place.

“We can confirm though that both local and international manufacturers have exciting reveals and activities planned and these factors combined with the positive response we’ve had so far in early bird ticket sales and in media coverage demonstrates a great buzz already about this year’s Show.”

Almost 95 per cent of all new cars sold in Australia this year will be represented at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show, with 27 brands confirmed to exhibit their current, future and in some instances, concept range of vehicles.

Two new manufacturers will be making their Australian International Motor Show debuts, with Opel and Infiniti taking the stage, as part of their launch strategy into the local automotive market.

“While some manufacturers will not be represented at this year’s Show, we believe that their decision is not a reflection of the value and importance they place on the Show.
“We are confident that a number of these brands will most certainly be represented at future Australian International Motor Shows.”

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will also have additional exhibits to impress and entertain visitors including Rosco McGlashan, the fastest Aussie on Earth, and an amazing never-before-seen concept vehicle from Woods & Woods with further announcements to be made shortly.

Its distinctive looks, inspired by the legendary 1969 and modern-day Boss Mustang, are sure to impress with the GT RSPEC sporting a C-stripe decal and unique accent package.

“Over the years, Ford Performance Vehicles continually wows visitors to the Motor Show with its impressively engineered vehicles, including the stealth all-black GT Concept unveiled at last year’s

“We are confident it will do so again this year in Sydney, with the GT RSPEC already receiving rave reviews and impressing industry experts.

“In fact as we understand it, the feedback received from fans and show-goers on the GT Black Concept was all considered in the development and in the planning of the GT RSPEC.”

FPV’s newest model was inspired by a desire to maximise the amazing performance of its legendary 335kW 5.0Lt supercharged V8 engine by enhancing the chassis’ capabilities, to create the ultimate driving package for enthusiasts.

The GT RSPEC also features a significantly recalibrated suspension package, new wider 9inch rear wheels with 275/35 R19 Dunlop Sports Maxx tyres and Launch Control.

A one-of-a-kind, never-before-seen concept vehicle from renowned Australian coachbuilders, Woods & Woods, will be showcased at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show.

Father-and-son, David and Jayson Woods have been building cars together for over 25 years, with their car on display at the 2012 Motor Show like no other vehicle.

With inspiration from the smooth lines of the automobiles from the early-to-mid 1930’s, but with David and Jayson’s unique flair, skill and knowledge, this car is guaranteed to wow motoring enthusiasts and the general public alike.

“We’ve always wanted to build our own vehicle based upon early European and American designs, but in a way that no-one else has done before,” said Jayson Woods.

“Whilst it’s taken only 12 months to build, I actually first thought this car up when I was at school, so it’s really been decades in the making.

“We created this car from scratch and to see the finished product in front of us still takes our breath away. Our ultimate goal is to create a limited run of vehicles based upon this prototype that are able to be driven on the roads.”

Throughout the years, Motor Shows in Australia have supported numerous niche automotive designers across the country, and the 2012 Australian International Motor Show is continuing this tradition.

“We are proud to be exhibiting this vehicle from Woods and Woods and providing them with a platform to showcase their skills,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

“David and Jayson are an inspiration and an example of when people put their minds to something, how it can be achieved.

“They have designed every single aspect and part for this car and what really sets it apart is that it is like nothing else – its timeless shape will draw some comparisons, but that is where the similarities end.

“Quite simply, any Australians interested in automotive design, engineering or manufacturing need to see this car.”

Visitors to the 2012 Motor Show will also be amongst the first in the world to see new models from both local and international manufacturers, with a record number of unveilings scheduled.

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour from October 19-28, 2012.

Automotive fans should start planning their route to Sydney for the 2012 Australian International Motor Show, with organisers confirming Lamborghini’s presence at the Show with three of its supercars taking centre stage.

Making its Oceanic debut is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder, giving the Australian public their first official look at this all-new entry-level supercar, ahead of its on-sale date later this year.

The Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder is the only convertible rear-wheel-drive variant in the Italian supercar manufacturer’s line-up and has been inspired by Valentino Balboni, the automotive legend who was Lamborghini’s test driver for over 40 years.

Making its second official appearance in Australia will be the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the pinnacle of Lamborghini’s range, which stole the show at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show.

“Lamborghini is always a crowd favourite at the Australian International Motor Show and we are excited they will be displaying their newest and most popular models in Sydney, as well as debuting an all-new stand design,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director.

And what would a Lamborghini stand at a Motor Show be without a surprise in store.

“At this stage, we can confirm that a third vehicle will feature on the Lamborghini stand; whilst we cannot give exact details just yet, it will be a show-stopping concept never before seen in Australia.”

Land speed legend, Rosco McGlashan, the “Fastest Aussie on Earth” will be appearing at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney in October.

Rosco, the current Australian Land Speed Record Holder at 500 mph (804 km/h), is attempting to become the fastest man in the world when he tackles the World Land Speed record behind the wheel of the Aussie Invader 5R – the rocket-powered car that has been 10 years in development.

Joining Rosco on stand at the Motor Show will be three members from Team Aussie Invader along with a 16 metre, life-size replica of the Aussie Invader 5R, giving visitors to the Motor Show an up-close and personal look at a model of the vehicle Rosco will pilot in his record attempt.

“We are thrilled to have Rosco McGlashan as a special guest at this year’s Australian International Motor Show in Sydney,” said Event Director, Russ Tyrie.

“Rosco is a fantastic ambassador for the Australian automotive industry, with his lifelong passion for anything with wheels and absolute dedication to local engineering, manufacturing and design.

“Rosco’s story and project is both unique and inspiring and we know visitors will enjoy speaking with him and the Aussie Invader team to find out more about their next record attempt and seeing a replica of the soon-to-be most powerful car in the world, the Aussie Invader 5R.”

Powered by a liquid oxygen and bio-kerosene rocket engine producing around 200,000 horsepower, the Aussie Invader 5R is capable of accelerating from 0-1,000 miles per hour (1,609 km/h) in just 20 seconds, faster than a bullet.

In successfully reaching this speed, Rosco and the rocket-powered Aussie Invader 5R will break the sound barrier one-and-a-half times over and smash the existing World Land Speed Record of 763 mph (1,223 km/h) set by British rival, Andy Green in 1997.

The Aussie Invader 5R world record attempt is set for 2013/14, about the same time Andy Green and the British team will be ready with their new car Bloodhound SSC setting the scene for the “Ashes of Land Speed.”

“We’re rapt to be back at the motor show this year, and really looking forward to giving fans the opportunity to see what our latest car, Aussie Invader 5R, will look like when finished, Rosco said.

“We’ve been planning and developing Aussie Invader 5R for ten years, and now we’re at the business end of bringing it all together.

“Our aim is to be testing the car next year, and working our way up to an attempt at the world record and 1000 mph after that. At 1000 mph we will be travelling the same speed the earth spins at the equator,”Rosco added.

Visitors to the Motor Show will also be treated to spectacular reveals from local and international manufacturers, with a record number of new models to be unveiled.

The Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour from October 19-28, 2012.
