Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

Italian supercar manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini unveiled one of its most exclusive models at the Australian International Motor Show: the Sesto Elemento. Never before seen in the Southern Hemisphere, the special edition supercar named “Sixth Element” in Italian was confirmed for production in a limited series of 20 units this year, and has already become recognized around the world for its avant-garde design. The Sesto Elemento will be displayed at AIMS from 18-21 October, before commencing a tour of Hong Kong, the Middle East and Europe.

Boasting permanent all wheel-drive and extreme lightweight construction based on state-of-the-art carbon-fibre technology, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has an overall curb weight of just 999 kilograms (2,202 lb). Combined with the supercar’s 570hp output from a V10 power unit, the Sesto Elemento’s super lightweight design makes it one of the fastest supercars in the world, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h  (0-62 mph) in a staggering 2.5 seconds.

Also unveiled alongside the Sesto Elemento at the AIMS were the Aventador LP700-4 and the Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante, to remain on display for the duration of the motor show from October 19 to 28.

Replacing the Sesto Elemento once it leaves AIMS to begin its international tour will be the Gallardo LP550-2 Tricolore, a special edition model commemorating the 150th anniversary of Italian unification in 2011, bearing the hand-painted national colours of Italy on its aluminium exterior and interior.

Innovative Technology Package – Carbon Fibre Monocoque

Presented initially as a concept car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the never-before-seen-in-Australia Sesto Elemento represents the future of super sports cars. Not since the revolutionary carbon fibre prototype, the Lamborghini Countach Evoluzione in 1986, has a super sports car brand produced a car weighing less than 1000kg. The entire front frame, the exterior panels and crash boxes are also made from CFRP and the major suspension components and the rims are made from carbon fibre. The tailpipes are made from Pyrosic, which is an advanced glass-ceramic matrix composite, able to reach and stand very high temperatures up to 900° celsius. Even the propeller shaft is made of CFRP. The 570 hp output equals 419 kW, all of which is available at 8,000 rpm. The pulling power is just as impressive – with the torque peaking at 540 Nm and 6,500 rpm.
