Premiere: Hansel and Gretel

Australian Premiere of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters in Sydney

Fans lined up again at Event Cinemas, George St last week for the Australian Premiere of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Jeremy Renner (Hansel) and Gemma Arterton (Gretel) both made the long trip to Sydney to walk the black carpet, making its way to a big ginger bread door. Behind the door they were met by locked up kids in cages asking for their help, a great effort by the event organisers for setting up such an elaborate red carpet.

The downside to these big sets is that there is not much room for fans to watch the red carpet. Groups of fans were squashed in the little viewing areas available. Jeremy and Gemma gave them lots of attention though, signing photos and posing for selfies, they had a great time!

The guests:

Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Tommy Wirkola (Director) and Kevin Messick (Producer). Local guests included Bonny Lythgoe, Emma Birdsall, Izzy Sevey, Luke Jacobs, Nacho Pop, Morgan Griffin and Heinz Haaf.

The film:

A legendary fairy tale transforms ‐‐ taking a dark, twisting turn down a new path into fun, fast‐paced action and sly, sinister modern thrills ‐‐ in the rollicking action‐horror adventure Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

The story picks up 15 years after siblings Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) hatched their escape from a child‐snatching witch, who changed their lives forever . . . and gave them a taste for blood. Now they have come of age as fierce, formidably skilled bounty hunters 100% dedicated to tracking and terminating witches in every dark forest ‐‐ hell‐bent on retribution. But as the notorious Blood Moon approaches and a familiar wooded town faces a nightmare for its innocent children, Hansel & Gretel encounter an evil beyond any witch they’ve ever hunted – an evil that could hold the secret to their frightening past.

Paramount Pictures and Metro‐Goldwyn‐Mayer Pictures present a Gary Sanchez production starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. The film is written and directed by Tommy Wirkola. The producers are Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn; and the executive producers are Denis L. Stewart, Chris Henchy and Tripp Vinson. Bringing the visually mesmerizing world of Hansel & Gretel to life is a behind‐thescenes team that includes director of photography Michael Bonvillain (Cloverfield), production designer Stephen Scott (Hellboy, Hellboy 2), editor Jim Page (Disturbia), costume designer Marlene Stewart (Real Steel, Tropic Thunder), Music by Atli Örvasson,  Executive Music Producer Hans Zimmer and visual effects supervisor Jon Farhat (Book of Eli, Wanted).

Very belated but wanted to say that I love the fan shots you took. These pictures are probably the best I’ve seen for having captured the vibe of what it was like that day for those of us being (happily) crushed around the red carpet. (Though I was on the opposite side and got baked by the media lights. Still worth it though).

Believe it or not, I have left church wondering if it is getting too feminine. I am against quotas, but they could be used to boost the number of males in the choir, in the kitchen, and teaching Sunday School. But here is what our church looks like some Sundays: female pastor, female worship assistant or liturgist, female lector, mostly female choir, or sometimes all female choir, female bell choir, and four male ushers. Female Sunday School Teachers. Female coffe servers. One male dish washer.Doesn’t that seem a bit off?
