Premiere: GI Joe: Retaliation with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Sydney

Australian Premiere of GI Joe: Retaliation

It’s been a while since the last premiere I attended but Sydney was finally ready again to be hit by celebrities.

The GI Joe: Retaliation world tour arrived in Sydney and four of the movies’ stars joined the party. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Roadblock), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jane), DJ Cotrona (Flint), Byung-Hun Lee (Storm Shadow) and the film’s Director Jon M. Chu walked the red carpet, together with a group of cool ninjas.

Last Thursday night turned into one of the biggest events I have seen at George St Cinema so far, the place was absolutely packet, I didn’t realise Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had such a big fan-base in Sydney!

The stars arrived in Hummers and The Rock arrived in a cool Humvee, tweeting #WhoTheHellNeedsLimos.

It wasn’t just The Rock that got all the fans screaming, South Korean actor Byung-Hun Lee was the first to arrive at the media wall and all the waiting girls went crazy. It wasn’t until Dwayne Johnson finally made his appearance that both the guys and girls started screaming and chanting “Rocky”!

After a live cross to Channel 10 he joined the rest of the cast for some group shots and finished with some individual shots before greeting more waiting fans.

The guests:

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, DJ Cotrona, Byung-Hun Lee and the film’s Director Jon M. Chu. Local guests included The Collective, Lisa Gormley, Dan Ewing & Marni Little, Jason Owen, Nacho Pop, Barry Southgate, Brittany Cairns, Harry Cook, Tasneem Roc and Andy Ryan.

The film:

A follow-up to the 2009 worldwide blockbuster G.I. JOE: The Rise of the Cobra, which grossed over $300 million worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions present, in association with HASBRO, a di Bonaventura Pictures production: G.I. JOE: Retaliation.

In GI Joe: Retaliation, the team is not only fighting their mortal enemy COBRA, but they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.
