Photoshoot: Plymouth Prowler
I have always been a big fan of hotrods so when I got the chance to photograph a modern day hotrod I got really excited. The car is a Plymouth Prowler, manufactured between 1997 and 2002 (models sold between 2001 – 2002 were sold as Chrysler Prowlers after the Plymouth marque was discontinued in 2001).
Chrysler engineers used the old hot rods as inspiration for the design of the Prowler. Like the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the SSR the design is very retro.
The looks of the car are powerful and mean, like hotrods are meant to be. The open front wheels really stand out and create a very tough look combined with the large rear wheels.
We took the car to a spot I noticed from the plane when I flew to Adelaide a few months ago. Google maps pointed me in the right direction and it turned out to be a great spot for photos. It was a very early morning start to get the nice morning light.
I had never been close to a Prowler before, the closest I ever came was the one pictured below, which I saw in Paris 2011.
With only 6 Prowlers believed to be in Australia you can say it is pretty rare and you’ll be lucky to spot one on the road. The car turned out to be quite a head turner when we took it for a drive to the city, imagine all the attention it would be getting if it was metallic purple, candy red pearl or bright orange or yellow!
The ride was very comfortable, the 3.5L Chrysler V6 combined with the Prowler’s light weight gives great performance figures and a nice tune.
Overall it’s a very cool car which gets a lot of very positive attention on the streets. Add some flames to the sides and it’ll be perfect for me!
