Top Gear Festival Sydney 2014
This year I’ll have two articles again covering Top Gear Festival 2014. This first article will show some of the cars that were on display last weekend and you’ll be seeing some of the track action in the next article.
Last year was a great success for Top Gear Festival and this year they have done it again in my opinion. Upon arrival Sunday morning I was a bit overwhelmed with all the options of things to see and didn’t really know where to start. With so many things happening you don’t want to miss out on something so you need to study the day’s schedule and hope everything runs on time. I unfortunately missed out on seeing the car bungee this time.
Upon my arrival I walked past various car clubs on display on top of the hill. Thinking I’d get some snaps of them on my way out I’d skipped them and went straight for the action. As I left at the end of the day most of the car clubs had left already unfortunately.
The best group of cars on display this year was the Supercar Garage hosted by Supercar D’Elegance. I took some photos for Supercar D’Elegance on Australia Day for their CARnivale. They had some spectacular cars on display including the only Pagani Zonda in Australia, a very familiar Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, a unique Honda NSX, Mercedes SLS AMG, various Ferrari’s, a matte black Lamborghini Aventador with green accents and various other cars.
Another big stand this year was Queen St Customs with a very rare Koenigsegg CCR on display together with a Rolls-Royce Phantom and Lamborghini Gallardo.
There were two Australian firsts at the Top Gear Festival this year: the stunning new McLaren 650S and the Porsche Macan S. The McLaren 650S came straight from the Geneva Motorshow where it was introduced to the world for the first time.
A highlight was the Celebration of Ayrton Senna. One of Senna’s championship winning cars, the McLaren MP4/4 was exclusively flown into Australia for the tribute, along with an original Senna race helmet. The MP4/4 hasn’t been seen in Australia since the 1988 Adelaide GP. This beautiful tribute was presented by Destination NSW.
Another great car on display was the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, a car with one of the nicest soundtracks. This one was looking like perfection after some great detailing by Superior Shine at the Ceramic Pro marquee.
Sports Auto Group also had some nice cars on display and taking part in the Supercar Showcase: a Lamborghini Gallardo, Murcielago and Nissan R34 GTR.
